Blogger prosecuted for playing Pokemon Go

Ruslan Sokolovsky

Russian blogger Ruslan Sokolovsky has been found guilty of inciting religious hatred after he uploaded a video to YouTube of himself playing Pokemon Go in a church in Yakaterinburg.

Sokolovsky, 22, was arrested last year. The video has now been viewed nearly 2 million times. He pleaded not guilty in court.

He was found guilty of insulting religious believers and inciting hatred as well as illegal trafficking of special technical equipment. He was given a suspended sentence despite the prosecution pushing for him to be sent to a penal colony for 32 months.

The mayor of Yakaterinburg said “You can’t arrest a man for idiocy”.
